The Munising area is very fortunate to have so many talented artists and crafters. With our Upper Peninsula solitude and beauty, the local artists are able to draw from mother nature and create some really spectacular artwork. Some of the visual arts include painting, photography, pottery and sculpture.
Chris Ledbetter
Chris Ledbetter is a painter and muralist who enjoys working with a variety of paint mediums. Her work varies from small paintings to large room-filled murals. She enjoys living in the Upper Peninsula and nature's beauty.
Greg Kretovic is a photographer and creative designer who loves spending his time in the outdoors capturing the year-round beauty of Upper Peninsula. Much of Greg's work includes photographic prints of Upper Peninsula waterfalls, landscapes and spectacular Lake Superior. His prints are professionally printed, of archival quality and available in a variety of sizes. His work can be viewed by visiting his online photography store as well as the Central U.P. Tourist Information Center in downtown Munising (across from the Days Inn, open seasonally).

Concentrating on the Upper Peninsula of Michigan and in particular the Central UP and Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore, Tim's work captures the raw beauty that still exists if you're looking for it. Not settling for another pretty picture, Tim tries to impart a personal look at the landscape creating each piece to have visual impact. Common every day scenes become transformed into visually stimulating images. Add to this the printing by a craftsman of 35 years and Tim's landscapes are captivating.
Thomas Baugnet is a professional potter who focuses mainly on functional pottery for the home. Thomas draws inspiration from the woods and water of the Upper Peninsula and has a studio called Open Wings Pottery Studio & Gallery.
Jill Baugnet is a passionate artist who enjoys melding beauty and function. Her art includes fabrics & fibers as well as pottery making. With her husband Thomas, Jill owns and operates a studio called Open Wings Pottery Studio & Gallery in Munising.
James W. Denkins has been a chainsaw sculptor for over 25 years. His creations range from small pet carvings
to large, multi-carving arrangements. His award winning “Edge of the Forest” display is on display at the Central U.P. Tourist Information Center on M28 East in Munising (next to Hardee's). James’ sculptors include realistic humans and whimsical style caricatures. Well-known for his attention to detail James has won many regional and national competitions. Carol is passionate about her art from the obscure surreal, to the whimsical fantasy and the beauty of nature of which she is surrounded by.
