Christmas in less than a week? It seems like I was just posting about how the leaves were changing colors. This year’s winter has come early compared to the past few years. There’s an abundant amount of snow on the ground (14″ in town) and it seems like it’s going be here a while. The temperatures have very frigid this week with below zero temps at night and highs in the teens during the day. There’s also been a steady wind which brings the wind chills way below zero (Today feels pretty balmy with the temperature being in the low twenties).  For the weekend we’re forecasted to get some pretty good snow amounts on Sunday. I’ll let you know next week how we do.

If you have some vacation time during the next few weeks (and you love snow) come visit us! From snowmobiling to cross-country skiing and snowshoeing, there’s something for everyone! Even if you don’t own the equipment, there are local businesses that will rent it to you. Our website, ExploreMunising.com, is a complete guide to visiting the area. From great lodging options to places to eat and shop, our friendly people will take care of you.

Have a good weekend!

Rekindle the Spirit a success!

Monday, December 8th, 2008

Despite the frigid temperatures (in the single digits) last Friday’s holiday event in downtown Munising was a success! A lot people came downtown to see the tree lighting, visit with Santa and take part in a scavenger hunt. Many businesses also stayed open later to accommodate shoppers. Below are some pictures from the event.

As for snow, we’ve got a ton! It looks like late January with the high snow banks rather than the beginning of December. Currently, there is 17″ on the ground in Munising and more out of town. The snowmobile trails are being groomed regularly as well as the cross-country ski trails at Valley Spur. Now is the perfect time to visit Munising and see our winter paradise!
