An annual tradition in Munising is the Lions Club’s Labor Day Rubber Ducky Race and Raffle on the Anna River. Being the 10th year of the event, this will be the biggest and best as the Lions Club has joined up with the local Moose Lodge to offer great food and entertainment all weekend long! The big race is quite the spectacle as 4,000 ducks float the Anna River and huge prizes are offered to the top five and to the last place duck. What’s great about winning is the first place duck can choose from a cruise for two to Alaska, a trip for four to Walt Disney World Resort or $3,000 cash! Following the duck race is a big raffle for over seventy great prizes.

Weekend event schedule:

Friday

• Buffet dinner @ Moose Lodge. 5pm-8pm.

Saturday

• Duck, Duck, Moose Street Dance & Picnic @ Moose Lodge parking lot. Food served at 5pm, music by Evergreen 7 from 8pm-Midnight.

Sunday

• All-you-can-eat breakfast @ Moose Lodge. 8am-Noon.
• 10th annual Lions Club rubber ducky race & Raffle @ Anna River. 2pm, raffle to follow.
• “Take It or Leave It” game show @ Moose Lodge. 4pm, win great prizes.

Well, it’s Friday and the weekend is almost here! It’s hard to believe that Labor Day weekend is almost here, too! Where did the summer go? It took quite a while for summer to get going around here although the last few weeks have been extremely nice. We’ve had temperatures close to eighty degrees with sunny skies. With Munising located right on Lake Superior, the lake acts as a natural air conditioner when the winds are northerly.

If you’re still pondering the idea of visiting Munising or the U.P., this is the perfect time of year! The warm days and cool nights make it very comfortable, the bugs are diminishing in the woods and Lake Superior is swimmable (for some)! It will be winter before we know it!
